Guernica revisited (3-D)
contributed by Claudia Manzoni, and intended for viewing with a 3-D stereoscope viewer
Not only are these amazing ‘holey’ rocks exciting objects of geological investigation, they also are a great subject from a stereoscopic point of view, displaying a harmonious interplay of solids and hollows that only a 3-D picture can successfully portray. What instinctively cropped up in my mind as soon as I saw this were faces in some iconic paintings by Picasso: the right part of the rock in the middle of the picture just looked like a three-dimensional version of distorted faces in ‘Guernica’ to me… how odd to ‘see’ this on the surface of another planet! https://www.museoreinasofia.es/en/collection/artwork/guernica
