Sol 1640: Dawespynten Megaripples Mastcam-Z Mosaic
This Mosaic was featured as the July 2026 Mastcam-Z “Image of the Month” submitted by Laura Mehall and the Mastcam-Z Payload Downlink Leads.
Highlands Splendor: Who hasn’t climbed up the nearest peak to see the view from the top? We are often rendered speechless by the views. Such was the reaction upon seeing this view for the first time. This stunning scene was captured from the western outer slope of Jezero crater’s rim looking westward over the Martian highlands. The field of sand dunes, named Dawespynten, is ~1 km away. This mosaic was created from 12 individual images and is displayed in enhanced color to improve visual contrast. At the time these images were acquired, the rover was on a slight tilt resulting in the right side of the mosaic to be slightly higher than the left side. Images acquired on sol 1640 (Sept. 30, 2025), in Mastcam-Z sequence zcam09723.
