Contributed by Sanna Alwmark

This Mastcam-Z sol 197 (Sept. 9, 2021) left eye, filter 0 (RGB), natural color image was taken at a focal length of 63 mm and shows the rock called “Rochette” after sampling by the Perseverance rover’s coring system. The hole on the left side is called “Montagnac”, which was drilled on Sept. 7, and the hole on the right side is called “Montdenier”, drilled on Sept. 1. Visible below Montdenier is also a circular region called “Bellegarde”, where Perseverance abraded part of the rock surface earlier, in preparation for coring. the late afternoon lighting (4:00 pm local solar time) accentuates the pitted and wind-carved nature of this historic rock.
