Oak Kanine
Oak Kanine (they/them) is a Ph.D. candidate in the Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences at Caltech and a student collaborator on Mastcam-Z. Their work has involved using Mastcam-Z images and 3D models derived from long-baseline stereo to perform outcrop-scale sedimentological, stratigraphic, and quantitative geomorphic analyses of outcrops of sedimentary rock in Jezero crater. Their Ph.D. work has also included studying the structure of the Jezero fan from orbital datasets as well as the effect of rockfalls on crater wall erosion. More broadly, their interests include Mars surface processes, remote sensing, fluvial/fluvio-lacustrine sedimentology, paleohydrology, comparative planetology, the evolution of martian climate and habitability, and analog research.
